As part of the institution's Corporate Social Responsibility Policy the Swaziland Building Society (SBS) has supported the Mangwaneni Low Income Housing Scheme with a tent and chairs valued at E27, 000. The donated items will be used for the organization fundraising project.
The main objective of the project is to protect and secure members' interest with regard to owning property at Mangwaneni. The scheme also aims to promote dialogue and address other issues like HIV/AIDS.
Making remarks during the event, the General Manager at SBS, Timothy Nhleko said as SBS they were very impressed with the idea of Mangwaneni Low Income Housing Scheme. He said the SBS's desire is to create wealth for Swazis thus an initiative like that of Mangwaneni has impressed the Society. He said scheme is very organized; goal oriented and addresses key societal issues. "You seem very organized and you are working towards a sustainable condition and that meets our aspiration of creating a culture of saving among Swazis. It is also our desire to see a majority of Swazis owning decent houses," he expressed.
Speaking during the official handover event held at Mangwaneni Primary School, Nhleko also lamented that the Society has supported a lot of initiatives like township development, support to commercial initiatives and also financed a lot of individuals especially those residing in urban areas. He said teamwork produces good results encouraging scheme members to continue working together so to achieve maximum results.
Johannes Shongwe, Mbabane west Member of Parliament told members of the scheme that he has been having the account with Building Society for a long time and also told them that his car was bought by the Society when he became MP. The MP made a plea to members asking them to maintain consistency and work towards a clear goal so that they can achieve set objectives. He also advised them to maintain good relations with Building Society so that the Society do not end with donations but also finance serious projects.
The chairman of the Scheme, Themba Nkambule said as people of Mngwaneni they do not want their people to lose land or property to other people who are not from Mangwaneni.
"We have realized that if there were developments or changes effected by government or Municipal Council of Mbabane they would lose to those who have financial weight thus this scheme will protect our interest and further help us secure decent housing," Nkambule said.
He also said they were very grateful to SBS for supporting the scheme saying they will use it to fundraise in order to grow the fund.
The event was also attended by the scheme committee members, SBS staff members and members of the community.
